Curating a Vibe - Sundays Furniture
Curating a Vibe with DJ Samantha Duenas
Our In Good Company series brings together good people, good food, and (of course) a welcoming space.
In this edition, we sit down with Samantha Duenas, the DJ and multi-hyphenate creative better known as SOSUPERSAM. Between spinning genre-spanning sets for fashion and nightlife heavyweights and cultivating a cult following on Substack with The Sam Report, she’s carved out a space that feels entirely her own. We caught up with her over an intimate dinner at her Los Angeles home, where the playlists were impeccable and the conversation even better.
How did you get into DJing?
I've always been in and around music, initially through dance, playing piano, singing, and musical theatre. My older cousin was a DJ, and it was always something I was curious about. It felt natural to eventually gravitate in that direction, and I've never looked back since!

How has motherhood influenced your DJing?
Motherhood has reframed my approach to the craft. While I have always primarily DJed in the nightlife sector, I've discovered different hours and different types of events to DJ. I love DJing for fashion, art, design, and beauty events. I've also DJed a few children-centric parties, and that has added a new meaning and purpose to what I do!
Being a great DJ is akin to being a great host. Any tips for creating a warm and memorable atmosphere?
DJing has honed my ability to be a good vibe conductor. There's a lot of preparation, but it's also important to read a room and think on the fly
Any tips on using music to set the vibe of an event?
A good playlist should have a pulse but not upstage the humans who are chatting and connecting. That's it, really!

Tell us about your connection to Los Angeles.
I'm proud to be born and raised here in LA. I’m originally from Culver City, but over my lifetime I've lived all over our glorious town: Silverlake, Eagle Rock, Atwater Village, and now I'm in my valley girl era!
What do you love most about your LA community?
There is something for everyone here in LA. Whatever you're interested in, there's a community for it.
